Hello everyone. Hope all of you are doing well.

Nikki Prepping for RKC last Summer with David Whitley, MRKC

Just a quick note on the importance of understanding how your body moves. Had a new client come in today for a prep session for the upcoming Hardstyle Kettlebell Instructor Certification we are hosting here in Omaha, NE.

He has been instructed by another HKC that I trained and trust completely. He understood the swing and 1 arm swing with a bit of tinkering and nailed the goblet squat.

Went to see his get up and he struggled with the #1 rule of the Turkish Get Up, not bending the elbow of the KB side arm. He especially struggled from kneeling to standing and standing to kneeling.

Went right into FMS testing right after that and shoulder mobility test showed he was severely limited. (1 and 1 each side).

Then we went remedial with some corrective work and 1/2 get ups and instructed him to discontinue full TGU’s and to OWN the 1/2 get up.

The reason I am posting this is for two reasons.

  1. For those of you who are preparing for an upcoming Hardstyle Kettlebell Instructor Certification (HKC) or a Russian Kettlebell Challenge Instructor Certification (RKC), it is IDEAL that not only do you meet with an HKC or RKC to go over technique, but to also see a CK-FMS specialist to see how your body moves and if you have any limitations that might lead you to not passing your certification.  Luckily enough, todays client was able to come in before the HKC and learn what his limitations are and how to correct them.  If he just showed up to the HKC, he more than likely would not have passed the TGU portion.
  2. For you RKC instructors out there who have not attended the CK-FMS, it is a huge help to have that knowledge which will help to lead you in the right direction to clean up your clients limitations to help improve their technique and get them working with optimal technique.
